Every breeder has a story. It usually begins with the purchase of one dog that is just that extraordinary. Ours was Boone. He came to us in 2009, at a particularly tough time, with a definite purpose, so it seemed appropriate to name Boonefield Labradors after him. It was through training and certifying him that my love for therapy work was born.  Shortly after Boone joined us, we bought Piper.  As Boone and Piper grew, so did our enthusiasm.  Although neither passed their final clearances for breeding, they went on to do other important jobs here at Boonefield.

We spent the next decade breeding and adding other dogs to our pack, dabbled in dog sports, titled some dogs and learned a lot! Through all those years, our goal remained consistent- we wanted to breed dogs that were beautiful, healthy and smart with very calm temperaments. In about 2019 Working "Comfort/Therapy Dogs" were more formally recognized and Police Departments began utilizing them in various roles. Most of our dogs were used to create the first programs in their respective cities and towns.

In 2022, on the heels of Covid and the mental health crisis, we began to focus on therapy and comfort work, which led us to where we are currently- exclusively breeding “working dogs”.  With the recent placement of our 100th assistance dog ours are now working in schools, law enforcement, assisted livings and funeral homes.  They truly are making an incredible impact!
